This study showed that, on average, two-thirds of school personnel in all [29 African] countries surveyed were unaware of at least one health consequence of tobacco use. School personnel who were involved in teaching about health, and those in countries with mandatory health warnings on tobacco products were less likely to be unaware of the health consequences of tobacco use. Unawareness of the health consequences of tobacco use was associated with being a current tobacco user.
