World Health Day 2017: Depression (22) Mental health in Cameroon

HIFA Quotation:

As this unique week of health closes marked with WHD celebration on the 7th of April, a feeling of extreme determination is building up amist myself and a good number of associations interested in promoting mental health in Cameroon.

Again, many people do not know what mental health is. Confuse it with mental illness and are seriously influenced by the cultural factor to consider mental illnesses per se (e.g, deprssion per se). It matters to highlight that the African conception of mental illness and health in general cannot be discarded but the reality of health and mental health imposses a concrete integration of the two world views in the system of beliefs of Cameroonians. Ignorance about mental health and mental illnesses is at all levels in the society.
