I can see the point you are making but the big problem with books is they are so heavy! And sometimes very difficult to get past the customs people at the border too! I think the laminated cards could be useful for visual aids in health promotion projects but laptops are pretty useful these days even in remote areas. I use video and photography as a strategy for community development when I am working with communities in remote mountain areas of Kyrgyzstan. I use a small DC - AC power converter I bought for about £30 from a local electrical shop.
